Types Of Robots

There are various types of robots which are being used in different industries across the world. According to an estimate, there were approximately one million industrial robots and about seven million service robots functioning by the end of the year 2008.

Broadly there are two major robots types- industrial robot and service robots. The definition of industrial types of robots as given by the by ISO 8373 defines it to be  "an automatically controlled, reprogrammable, multipurpose manipulator programmable in three or more axes, which may be either fixed in place or mobile for use in industrial automation applications."

The kinds of robots which form the most commonly used industrial robots are robots with fixed arms ands manipulators chiefly doing work related to production and distribution of goods. On the other hand, the second types of real robots, the service robot have not any well defined definition. However, there is a proposed definition which describes it as a robot which functions semi- or fully autonomously in order to carry out the services required for the welfare of humans and equipment, exclusive of manufacturing operations.

The below classifications of robots help you know better about the types of real robots.

Tele-robots – These types of robots are characterized by the features such as they are guided with the help of a computer or a remote controlled by human operator.

Telepresence Robots – These kinds of robots are quite similar to Tele-robots types however they also have a feed back of video, sound and other data which provides the robot operator a feeling more like they are in the Robot.

Static Robots – These types of robots are widely used as arms robots which are deployed in large industries and laboratories worldwide.

Mobile robots – These types of real robots required to be navigated and perform tasks without any of the human intervention.

Autonomous Robots – These types of robots have the ability to perform their work without intervention and obtain their power from their environment.

Androids – The kinds of robots which fall under this category are built to mimic humans.
